Roadtrip: Day 8

Today was pretty uneventful.  We drove the 7 hours from Oklahoma City to St. Louis and made only one stop in between.  But the random stop was a pleasant surprise!  The father of one of James' friends in OKC recommended that we try Lambert's Cafe outside of Springfield, Missouri so we decided to give it a try.  The restaurant is huge and we had to wait 45 mintues to be seated at 4:00 p.m. on a Monday.  The tour buses in the parking lot should have given us a hint that it would be pretty crowded!!

Anyway, at the restaurant you order whatever you want off the menu, then the waiters walk around serving everyone the "pass arounds" which were things like black eyed peas, fried okra, and macaroni and tomatoes.  But the BEST part is that a guy walks around with hot bread rolls and you just wave at him and he throws it to you from across the room.  I found the whole thing highly amusing.

James caught his bread like a champ.

A reenactment of me catching my bread with my armpit.

The pile of fried okra they served us.
